Frequently Asked Questions
Start by identifying all possible exits from each room, establish a meeting point outside, and practice the plan regularly with all household members. Make sure everyone knows how to use alternate routes if the primary exits are blocked.
Different fire extinguishers are designed for specific types of fires. Class A is for ordinary combustibles, Class B for flammable liquids, Class C for electrical fires, and Class K for kitchen fires. It’s advisable to have a multi-purpose extinguisher (ABC) that covers a variety of fire types.
Test your smoke detectors monthly by pressing the test button. Change the batteries at least once a year, and consider using the daylight saving time changes as a reminder. Additionally, vacuum detectors regularly to remove dust, and replace them every 10 years.
Stay low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation, seal doors and vents with clothing or towels to prevent smoke from entering, and signal for help from a window using a flashlight or a bright-colored cloth. Call emergency services and provide your location.
Conduct regular fire drills, ensure all employees are trained in the proper use of fire extinguishers, and maintain clear evacuation routes. Install and regularly test fire alarm systems, and designate specific individuals responsible for coordinating emergency procedures. Regularly review and update safety protocols with employees.
